defining authenticity

Authenticity is the property by which something stands true, original to what it represents in terms of space, time, context, experience, expression etc. and also undeniably to its function in one sense or the other.

Defining authenticity as a phenomena, which is not related only to the field of architecture, anything and everything which involves any amount of creativity, has the possibility of becoming an authentic example of the typology if it fulfills not only the material requirements asked of it but delivers more, an expressive definition of itself, not physically or literally but as a response from its users emotionally.

The popular conceptions of Authenticity is mundane, simple and plain. From a restaurant offering “authentic” Indian cuisine, to a simple pair of “authentic” denim wear, a bar branded as nothing “authentic” etc. the conception stays nebulous. The word has almost become a slang-uage, a misconception to the actual usage of the term.
